The essence of the Feldenkrais Method
The Feldenkrais work is a scientifically-based practical method,
providing a code of communication between brain and body, turning
potential into action through the synthesis of movement and
cognitive awareness
The Feldenkrais Method is a potent
application of inherent physiological and cognitive performance,
maximizing the connection between brain functions and the nervous
system, thereby stimulating self-directed behaviour. Through
multiple processes of learning to access untapped or neglected
individual abilities, each person is enabled to re-discover optimal
self-use, leading to improved performance and overcoming
difficulties. Over the past 50 years, it has benefited
thousands of individuals, ranging from challenged and injured
individuals to renowned excelling performers. The
Feldenkrais work is regarded as a fundamental tool for
self-fulfilment and healthy physical and mental
growth.
The latest research indicates that
physiological complaints share commonalities with conditions which
previously seemed strictly cognitive such as cerebral palsy,
autism. We now know that, in all conditions, physiological and
brain function reflect each other. The breakthrough is that they
all which appear to involve breakdowns of the brain's learning
patterns.
Through carefully directed sequences, the Feldenkrais Method
implemented the principles of neuroplasticity (the ability of the
brain to reorganize and rebuild behavioural and physiological
patterns) in improving performance and overcoming
injury.
